Holiday Road

We had another great trip to the beach this year. Grandma, Grandpa, or as the baby calls him Goompa, and Aunt Jodie all got to make the trip with us. The weather was beautiful the entire week and we saw dolphins in front of the house every day, sometimes multiple times a day. None of us wanted to leave.

We had invited Marshall’s mom to join us too but she declined. Since we haven’t seen her in a couple of years now next year we’ll take a trip out to her. She lives about 1400 miles away from us so this will take a little more planning that just heading to the beach.  And, now that the baby is 2, flying would mean buying 4 round trip tickets so that means just one thing, ROAD TRIP!!!

But not just any road trip mind you. I’m going to plan the most awesome, amazing, fun-filled family adventure since the Griswold family headed off to Wally World. My tentative plan is to take the long way and stop at the Grand Canyon on the way. Ok, as Marshall pointed out, the Grand Canyon is technically two states past where we want to go. But, when planning an awesome, amazing, fun-filled family adventure road trip, you must have a big destination as part of the trip. So, the Grand Canyon it is.

Next I’m going find all those fun, kitschy places along the way to stop. The biggest ball of twine, a giant dinosaur, Bob’s Big Boy statue, you name it, we’ll take a picture of the kids in front of it. I’m also debating seeing how many of the Diners, Drive Ins and Dives locations we can find along the way and banning all electronics in the car. We’ll be hot, miserable, and ready to kill each other by the end of the trip but, if we’re going to do it, we might as well do it right.

All I need now is for Marshall to agree to renting a station wagon for the trip.
